How to Select the Right Level of Cabinetry for Your Project

How to Select the Right Level of Cabinetry for Your Project

Few home features have as big of an impact on the overall aesthetic as cabinets. Everything about your cabinets, from the quality to the style to the color, influences the style and feel of your space. Each decision you make will, in turn, impact the final result. And there are so many decisions to make, not the least of which is choosing between stock, semi-custom, or fully custom cabinets. This decision alone will influence many more.

Levels of Cabinetry

Deciding which level of cabinetry is right for your project starts by understanding the differences between your three options. It can be a BIG decision, so we’ll help you break it down.

Stock

Suffering from decision paralysis? Overwhelmed when making selections? Just want a cabinet that performs its

utilitarian purpose and delivers functionality? Relieve a load from your mind and peruse stock cabinetry solutions. They are a terrific option – and an economically friendly one at that.

You don’t want to feel like you’re in the cereal aisle at the grocery store with 457 different boxes staring at you. But you do want a little flexibility. Great. While “basic,” our stock line does have quite a few options from which to choose. Full overlay? Traditional overlay? Different types of face frames? You can get what you need, and ensure it is beautiful, without wading through millions of samples and displays.

Choosing stock isn’t a sacrifice or compromise if you have other decisions that weigh more heavily. It’s just helping you fast-forward along your journey.

Semi-Custom

This is a great middle ground between stock and fully custom. Semi-custom offers a variety of options without being overwhelming. There are more door styles, finishes, and wood species to consider, and you can think about special features like accessories or different types of molding. You can explore some extra touches and modifications that help make your space yours.

As the head of ACo’s CAD department, Amanda Wagoner, says of semi-custom options, “There are basically more SKUs in our spec book, so you have more options to choose from.”

Fully Custom

Show. Stopper.

If you come to the ACo design team with a very specific vision in mind, fully custom cabinets are the best route for achieving your goals. Whether it is a specially designed coffee bar to accommodate your imported espresso machine, a hidden door to your walk-in butler’s pantry, or even a built-in space for your beloved pet to eat, you can customize it to your heart’s content.

Amanda explains, “It’s a little bit of a different process because it’s fully custom to you. Anything you want to do – well, not anything – but if we can draw it, we can build it. Come in and tell us what you want, what you need, what you like… Our custom cabinet line has a way of making it happen.”

The possibilities are endless, from stain and paint matches to custom door styles, detailed work, and even those pieces custom designed to accommodate your needs. If it is physically possible, Amanda and her team can do it.
