Modern Farmhouse Mud Room Update
For many families, the mud room is the first room they enter when coming home after a long day. It should be a cozy, welcoming space, with easy storage. A place where you can toss your cares away. For Designer Dani Kohl’s clients, their mud room just wasn’t working for them. The storage wasn’t well designed, the room was dark, and the flooring was difficult to maintain and keep clean.
The clients were looking for a welcoming area for the family and any guests coming into their home from the pool outside. The idea was to create a family friendly mud room with easy hanging hooks for the kids to use when getting home from school and for family and friends to use as a convenient changing area for the pool.
The final result is a much brighter and more open room. The existing closet was removed, and a quartz bench was added. This durable bench is easy to maintain and practical for anyone coming inside wet from the pool. Tile floors ensure cleaning is easy and a new pocket door for the half bath includes a full-size mirror that adds visual space and light while also serving to provide a last “quickly look” before leaving the house.
In the small, attached bathroom, a farmhouse style sink and fixtures add a cozy but updated touch. Accents of black, grey, and gold give both the mud room and bathroom an updated look that is not just sleek but also works for the family’s lifestyle.
