These clients were ready to make changes to their home in a big way. They wanted to renovate and update all their living spaces to match their current stage of life. Built in the 80’s, their home flowed well with functional spaces perfect for family life. However, the style was dated, having never been updated. The kitchen felt closed-in with upper cabinets dividing the cooking area from the eat-in dining table. The primary bathroom felt dark and small with plenty of storage but not a lot of character. The laundry space was functional but the homeowners wanted more.
With these challenges in mind, ACo Designer Dani Kohl and her clients evaluated what they wanted to achieve in each space. The goal for the kitchen was to update the existing finishes and open up the space for maximum utilization, creating the perfect space for large family gatherings. The master bedroom was already a relaxing and comfortable retreat, and they wanted the feel of the primary bathroom to be an extension of that. For the laundry space, the client wanted a space that could continue to function as an organized laundry room but could also handle the high traffic of a mudroom and half-bath.
In the kitchen, those upper wall cabinets dividing the space had to go. Now the kitchen and dining area feel like one big open space, perfect for entertaining family and friends. This allows the family to really use the kitchen as they always intended – as the heart of the home. There is now a wonderful flow to the room, but what truly makes this kitchen unique are the details. From the marble backsplash to the new built-in dining cabinet, everywhere you look offers something special and unexpected.
The primary bathroom is now updated and bright with the comfort of heated floors. With cane inset doors and soft-close drawers, the new custom storage cabinet is more than just functional. Like a beautiful piece of custom furniture, it adds character and sophistication to the room. Final details from the soft paint color on the walls, to the pale tile and countertops keep the space a relaxing oasis.
The laundry space and half bath were also updated with new cabinets, tile, and fresh paint, but the showstopper in this area is the artichoke green coat cabinet. The intricate door detail adds so much character while the unit itself provides much needed storage for organization and ease of access.
For these homeowners, remodeling their home wasn’t just about an aesthetic update, it was about creating spaces that suit their lifestyle and needs making their home a place they love to be.
