The Truth About Laminate Cabinets

The Truth About Laminate Cabinets

While many homeowners perceive laminate cabinetry as cheap-looking and dated, the truth is laminate cabinets have come a long way in recent years. With advances in design and materials, today’s laminate cabinets are a great option to consider for your home. Not only is laminate durable and maintenance free, it’s typically a more economical choice than wood and is available in a wide-range of designs.

What are Laminate Cabinets

Laminate is a synthetic material that is adhered by pressure to a substrate. In general, there are two different types of laminate doors – low pressure laminates and high pressure laminates. Low pressure laminates, you guessed it, are adhered at a lower pressure and are often thinner than high pressure laminates, typically making them the most cost-effective option. That said, they are also more susceptible to cracks and chips. Low pressure laminates are typically comprised of plastic & medium density fiberboard (MDF), whereas high pressure laminates have a high density fiberboard (HDF) core making them the most durable option on the market today.

Both, however, are easy to clean, and resistant to fading and warping. This makes them a perfect choice for rooms that have higher humidity levels, such as bathrooms & laundry rooms.

Knowing how durable they are, makes them a great option for kitchens too. It’s the most used room in the house. Do you really want to worry about fading, warping, & chipping or cracks? We didn’t think so.

Best of all, laminates are now offered in a variety of beautiful colors, textures and finishes, such as the Shaker-Style Valen Laminate from Quality Cabinets. The sleek style and versatility of laminate cabinet design make them a perfect choice for homes with contemporary or modern flair. But with the right finish they can certainly work for traditional homes too.
