Like many of our other ACo clients, this homeowner came to us with a list of updates she was wanting to make to her 1980’s Geist home. New flooring in the upstairs hallway, new flooring on the main floor, and a new kitchen were the next items on her list. Focusing on the upstairs hallway first, flooring expert ToddMoretto helped the homeowner find the perfect laminate.
Satisfied with the product and services she received, she returned to ACo for her main floor. Although she had already worked with an independent designer to begin the preliminary material selection process, she liked the idea that ACo was a “one-stop-shop.” She was a busy working mom with two little children, she did not have time to be the general contractor for her first-floor remodel.
The homeowner knew she wanted a consistent flow throughout her home as well as a white, timeless, and functional kitchen. The selection process was relatively easy. To keep with the consistency of the home, the same laminate that was installed in the upstairs hallway was selected for the entire first floor. White cabinetry from Quality Cabinets, white Cambria quartz countertops, white subway tile, and champagne gold accents all served to create the transitional but elegant space this homeowner was seeking.
The re-design was a bit more challenging. The existing space had a large peninsula in the middle of the kitchen separating the workspace from an eat-in breakfast nook and a soffit made the room feel small and dark. To open the space and make it more functional, both the peninsula and the soffits were removed. A large island with plenty of informal seating eliminated the need for a breakfast nook, so the kitchen was expanded to fit the entire room. A low window served as the perfect spot for a small bench. A serving center was created next to it, complete with floating shelves that were custom stained to match the flooring. A mix of brushed champagne pulls and knobs added a playful touch to the cabinets and a new lighting plan brightened up the entire room.
Overall this redesign allowed for a better flow for not only the kitchen but for the entire main floor of this Geist home. The kitchen now opened to the dining room and living room making the whole house more functional for this young family of four.
